MEDIA FREEDOM AS A CORNERSTONE FOR DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS

Our expert has worked as a rapporteur at a conference called “Media Freedom as a Cornerstone for Democratic Elections organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission Council of Europe and hosted by the Parliament of Germany. The conference brought together prominent media experts, scholars and members of electoral management bodies dealing with elections & media who discussed the most recent trends in the media coverage of elections in the Council or Europe member States. The main goal conference was to encourage peer-to-peer parliamentary dialogue and focused on evaluating strategies for ensuring media freedom, media transparency and access of political parties and candidates to the media in the context of democratic elections. It was conducted in the framework of the joint agreement between the Council of Europe and the European Union, the so called 2015-2017 EU-CoE Eastern Partnership Programmatic Co-operation Framework (PCF). This programme aims at providing assistance to the reinforcement of democratic reforms in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
