MONITORING MEDIA IN CONNECTION WITH THE 2017 LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS IN GEORGIA

Our expert has worked as a media consultant in the framework of a project entitled “Monitoring media of the 2017 Local Self-Government Elections in Georgia”, implemented by United Nations Development Programme Georgia (UNDP) and supported by the European Union. The main objective of the project was to promote a peaceful, free and credible media environment during the 2017 elections in the country. The project aims to provide an evidence-based assessment of media performance, contribute to the improvement of media reporting standards, and strengthen media monitoring capacities of Georgia civil society organizations.

The expert was supposed to ensure that local organizations implementing the project - Charter of Journalistic EthicsCivil Development Institute (CDI) and Internews Georgia – were able to analyze data, and write reports in full correspondence with recognized international standards and practices. In addition, he provided assistance in the preparation of the evidence-based assessment of media performance and the development of recommendations on the improvement of reporting standards. A one-day media monitoring workshop took place in Lopota, Georgia, on 13 December 2017.
