Elections

We are probably best known for our media analysis and monitoring during elections. An important benchmark for us was the year 1999 when we were approached for the first time by the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to participate in their international election observation missions.

To date, MEMO 98 has taken part in more than 150 election and media related projects in more than 60 countries (in particular in the former Soviet Union and the Balkan countries, but also in Africa, America and Asia, including Middle East). More specifically, our projects and activities were related to the following countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Guyana, Hungary, Iceland, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Libya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Myanmar, Nauru, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Yemen and naturally Slovakia.

These missions and projects have been conducted in the framework of international organizations, including OSCE/ODIHR, European Union, United Nations, Pro Media, International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), International Media Support (IMS), and National Democratic Institute (NDI). The most significant international projects carried out by MEMO 98 include those conducted in the former Yugoslavia (2000), Belarus (2001, 2004, 2007-2008, 2020 and 2022), Ukraine (2004, 2015-2016, 2019 and 2022), Russia (2005-11, 2015), Azerbaijan (2008, 2013-2015), Myanmar (2010-11 and 2015-16), Serbia (2012-2014 and 2022), Georgia (2013-2015) and Kyrgyzstan (2020-2021).
